A practical Shopify handover checklist

Make sure your team can run the store after the design is approved.

Confirm account ownership

The business should understand who owns the store, domain and connected services. Use appropriate staff access rather than sharing one personal login. Record the process for removing access when a contractor’s work ends and for recovering the account if the main contact is unavailable.

Practise routine tasks

Ask the person who will manage the store to add a product, update an image and process a sample order with guidance. Training is more useful when it follows real daily tasks. Keep short instructions for workflows that are easy to forget.

Document responsibilities

Agree who updates products, handles customer queries and reviews app subscriptions. Separate ongoing support from the initial build scope. If a change requires development, explain how it should be requested and approved so staff do not make risky changes to a live theme.

Plan the first review

After launch, collect common customer questions and operational difficulties. Review these alongside the store journey and prioritise improvements. A handover should leave the team with clear ownership, a working process and a route for resolving issues.
